Inspired by the wide variety of illustrated thematic posters we could find for the English alphabets, we were keen to try the same in Tamil and used the உயிர் எழுத்துக்கள் as our testing ground.
We’re really not going to lie here – we thought it would be easy and straightforward but oh boy were we wrong! Many Tamil dictionaries later, we had to start getting creative with some of the எழுத்துக்கள் in order to find an exact sound match. Which explains some of our animal choices 🙂 We were really determined to get this done and since our mission has always been to create bilingual resources, we hope you’ll enjoy the final poster too!
If you loved singing supercalifragilisticexpialidocious as a child, then saying Oustalet’s Tyrannulet should be jujubi for you. Give it a go, we’re sure your kids will be tickled by the tongue twister!
We had a blast as always in working with illustrator Lilya Konyukh to bring the little animals to life. The poster is available as an A3 download. If you give it a shot with your kiddo, please do come back and tell us how they liked it! We’re always looking for feedback on how to do things better, your experiences definitely help us there. If you have a request for us to try a different theme with the உயிர் எழுத்துக்கள் or want us to give the மெய்/உயிர்-மெய் எழுத்துக்கள் a shot, please do tell us. We’d love to work on something that you’d find useful!
(Pssst… Don’t forget to share it with your friends and family!)
