Dawn Machell and Jane Horne’s book ‘One of a Kind’ is a favorite in our home. It got us thinking… “gosh, why not try this in Tamil?” And so we did.
The adorable animal mascots are the creations of illustrator Lesya Skripak which we managed to find thanks to Freepik’s archives. We then set about dressing up the little creatures so they’d be perfect for our game.
We’ve tried to keep the questions simple so that kids will find it easy to pick up some Tamil vocabulary in the process. Repetition is always helpful when teaching a new word. So if you’d like for your kutty to learn the word பட்டாம்பூச்சி (butterfly), try to incorporate it into conversations over the week.
பட்டாம்பூச்சி எப்படி பறக்கும்? Use your hands to gesture a flying butterfly. If you’re out and about downstairs, spend a minute to spy for butterflies. Or play pretend and fly around the house like giant butterflies! Go a step further – try face painting! Soon, பட்டாம்பூச்சி will become a new favorite buzzword. Try it and tell us if it worked for you!
As always, please share with us your feedback if you enjoyed playing the game with your child and if you’d like to see more of these i-spy activities up on the website.
